The Papillon Ring in Gem Silica
Gem silica is beautiful and rare, the most valuable and sought after variety of chalcedony. Its gorgeous color, reminiscent of tropical waters, comes from copper content, similarly to paraiba tourmaline. This wonderfully saturated and translucent specimen (you can read text through the gem) was mined in the United States, at the Inspiration Mine in Arizona. A slightly larger stone than my usual fare, I designed this setting to highlight this wonderful gem. Not only does the graphic design frame the gem beautifully, but I've extended an echoed version of the pattern beneath the gem silica to take advantage of its translucence.
